Hello All;
Time for another Wednesday wargaming battle Report. This week are doing some flames of war, try out a game before the campaign to see how the rules work again and all that.
I took a German force with Panzer 3s and infantry. Serge had Russians with t34s and infantry.
Mission was breakthrough.
Here's the deployment. I set up my infantry along the middle to be annoying and had panzer 3s in ambush and more in reserve. Russians in the corner with a tiny AA as the break through.
Russian first turn, tanks roar off to the left in formation, infantry run forward.
I deployed my ambush in the woods which did jack, but my 8nfantry and HMGs shot up the Russians real good. My anti tank guns did ok, I think 1 bail 1 kill.
Next turn the Russians infest the village with tanks, and the infantry assault. But they are pushed back bad and mostly die. Their artillery did knock out a gun thou. I brought in 3 tanks from reserve and flanked the Russian line doing not great.
The many angry Russian tanks turn their turret to punish my 3 guys. But miracles happen and all the saves are passed!
Next turn hits hard for the Russians. I have the big tanks flanked so actually get some good kills in. And my commanders come in and see of the tanks on the opposite side. Also I started moving some infantry to assault the guns.
Russian return fire is finally on point and 8 loose the 3 tanks.
Next turn the tank shooting continues. But the Russian reserves show up to sit on the objective. My assault against the guns goes off and I kill 2, but fail to win and end up with not much left.
Just in time my armored cars show up and shoot up the AA trucks. Prevent7ng the Russians from winning easy.
The tank shooting goes back and forth for a bit. But we are both low on numbers and dont have great odds. So it turns into a big grind.
It's not clear who will win considering there are so few t34s left, so we decided to call it a draw.
Was q fun game, actually did alright against the Russians for once!
Thanks;
Mike

Battle Report - Saga Mass Battles Crusades
Hello All,
This past Sunday I was finally able to get together with Duncan and Stan for some more Saga action. Duncan wanted to be Spanish so went for the crusades!
With three people we decided to try out one of the new multiplayer games. I forget what it was called now but the idea is you get your survival points at the end + one for every charge you did. Also the order players go in can change every turn.
Obviously this all makes the game hectic and fun, so you can assume this report will make even less sense then normal.
Part way through turn 1. Stan has crusaders on the hill, Duncan a horse of mounted across the way and my Eastren princes bottom right.
Time for action. My crossbow guys shot up Stans real good. I also charged some mounted off to fight Duncan on the right but they did nothing then died.
Well I kind of decided far away from Spain is the best place to be so my important guys are running around the hill. But I left some warriors to slow down the Spanish and crossbows to annoy Stan.
My Warriors got beat up a bit but no big deal.
Moved my crossbows to shoot some mounted hearth guard, but the warriors got in the way. Just killed them instead.
Sadly the Crusaders were offended at this and charged my guys in the flank! This killed some so getting low on guys.
The Spanish warriors on the left then went on a whirlwind of javelin terror killing lots of Stans guys and some of mine.
I countered these exhausted guys with mine. After about a million saga and fatigue abilities many dice were rolled and both units pretty much died.
After that I sent my warlord on a hail mary mission to kill Stans as I thought he would win, but died so I was left with 1 warrior!
In the end Stan shot up some more of Duncans guys with the last couple of crossbows and the game was over.
Me and Duncan were pretty much wiped out so Stan with the Crusaders was the clear winner.
Overall a very fun scenario look forward to doing more mass battles.
Thanks;
Mike

Tale of 2 Wargamers
Hello Folks,
This past Saturday we had another gaming day, so I have some more progress pictures for you and another 7th edition warhammer battle report.
Necrons:
Here is the current status for me. Warriors and scraps swarms plus the overlord all finished. Still happy with how this army is going, necrons are very fast and easy to paint due to all the metals.
Nick's Tau:
And here is the status of Nick's army. More focused on building as some paint are shipped. So everything is assembled and primed. Looking good so far!
Purge the Alien:
So we had enough stuff for a 350 point game so went for that. For me that is 12 warriors 3 scarabs and the overlord (hes expensive). The 5au had 5 breaches 5man strike team, 3 battle suits, an ethers and some drones.
Pretty small armies and going back to 7th edition is a bit of a change. So decided to keep it simple and go for the Purge mission. You get a point for killing units plus a bonus for first blood, warlord and line breaker (have guys by enemy edge at the end.
Here us the deployment. I kept my guys close together, the Tau ambushed and spread out. Most stuff hiding behind the walls. Not much happened turn 1 but the suits advanced and killed a few guys.
Next turn I tried to charge the suits with my scarabs. 1 base died to over watch and I called the charge roll. And the tau killed the rest on their turn netting them first blood.
Next turn my warriors finished off a the strike team, and I split up and decided to try charging again. The overlord was more angry so he made it! Time to start chopping tau.
The tau were limited in options with a big combat in the way but brought the breaches back in. Next turn my warriors joined the fight and the suits died. The Tau fought back hard with the breaches close ranged shots. But the overlord used his resurrection orb so most of the Necrons were saved.
Then it came down to a battle of the warlords! Mine easily won, tau not being know as great fighters.
But he was left with 1 wound and the remaining breached finished him off!
Then the warriors shot him down.
Final count was 6 points for me 4 for the Tau. Pretty close, if the Etheral had escaped they probably could have won as he is worth so many points (3).
So anyway that's where we are for now. Having fun with 40k again going back an edition was the right choice for sure. Also good to work on a new army been awhile fir this game!
Thanks;
Mike

Tale of 2 Gamers - warhammer 40k
Hello Folks,
As mentioned in a previous post one of my colleagues is interested in trying a little bit of wargaming. After some discussion we decided to both get a start collecting box.
So I figured that this would be a good time to do a 'Tale of 4 Gamers' type series. For those that dont know there was a popular series of articles done by GW where 4 people collect and paint new armies and play games and talk about their experiences ect.. So we are going to do that here!
First up here are the sets in question. I am going to do the Necrons, and Nick is going to do the Tau. 23 guys should give a good start to things.
We got started this weekend and had a building and painting day. This went quite well and we got lots of progress. I actually cheated and started in a couple of days earlier so a bit more for me.
I got 4 Necron Warriors finished and a few more started. I decided to go with a gold armor and jade details for these guys thought that would be cool. Also seemed easy. For basing I wanted to try something different. GW has a special beading texture paint for a Mars type base so I went for that.
Basically you put on a layer of their texture paint which dries and cracks then a dry brush. Very easy think it turned out well.
So that is where we are at the moment. More progress photos and some battle reports to come.
If anyone out there is interested in joking in let me know! Can easy grab a start collecting kit or paint a similar amount of stuff you already have. I can like to other blogs or more people can colloberate here!
Thanks;
Mike

Battle Report - Middle Earth Strategy Battle Gamr
Hello Folks,
Time for another Wednesday wargaming battle report. This week we are doing some lord of the rings gaming, using forces from the new Hobbit book. I took a Rivendell force with Gil Galid, Elrond, and Cirdsn plus some elves. And was set to fight Axog and Fimbul with a bunch of hunter orcs and wild wargs.
I drew a card for the mission and got hold. So once again the objective is to hold the center, I put down the ring to mark it. In this one warbands come from random board edges.
Turn 1:
Turn 1 we just have warbands arriving. Azog in the burnt town, Elrond on the left, king of the elves by the road and now orcs bottom right corner. Only the Wargs failed to show up.
Turn 2 has most bands head for the middle. I had Cirdan cast aura of dismay which gives terror. Hoping to force the orcs to charge piece meal.
Turn 3 more advancing. Elrond group stood off a nitvthou and formed a line. Was nervous about facing both groups at once, and wanted to fight the wars first.
The Orcs charged turn 4 but due to the little rock and terror it was not quite on mass. Elrond casted the Wrath of Brunen knocking allot down and killing a few. This greatly blunted the cavalry advantage. Other forces advanced. The strike from Elronds group went ok but not as good as I felt I needed.
Next turn things get messy. Azog moves into the kings face and his archers get their last round of shots. They actually did pretty well. Elronds group continues to fight but have terrible luck.
Next turn the king and Azog get into it. First round to Azog and the king nearly dies! But the archers are doing better than expected. Elronds group is getting chewed up but he is able to kill Fimbul.
More fighting as the orcs take the ring. This round goes to the king.
Next turn time for the final battle.
But Azog wins and Gil Galid goes down.
The Elves put up a valiant effort but are broken. The orcs clearly have the center and with my leader down it's a 12-1 for Evil!
I probably went a bit to big on heroes, second problem is I need to paint some knights! Would give the elves a much needed boost of speed and killing power. Actually I have like 3 or 4 armies in desperate need of cavalry or more cavalry.
Anyway hope you enjoyed it. Going to try out a Flames of War game next week.
Thanks;
Mike

Battle Report - Double Feature
Hello All,
Got some more gaming done, so time for some more battle reports. This week was Star Wars X-Wing and a small introductory game of 40k. I figure both will be short so I can put them together.
X-Wing: Imperial vs Scum
So standard outer space game but with new 3-D asteroids. I wanted to try different shops so went with 2 tie bombers with bombs a defender and a fighter to fill points. The scum took boba fett and a bunch of cheap tough ships.
Advancing into range.
The first fire happens and boba fett almost kills a bomber right out. Not having shields is bad. Some other pot shots happen with the Tue defender doing alright bring a couple of shields down.
Next turn things get complicated and there's a bit of a scrum. But my first bomber goes down.
Next turn time for bombs. My bomber drops a proton bomb. But it ends up blowing right away and catches 2 of my ships and 1 scum!
Next turn and another bomb. This one feels much better. I actually kind of like the bombs. My ships are getting cut to shreds thou. I took out 1 scum ship but the tie fighter is lost. Things looking grim.
Fett finishes the bomb who was flying straight and slow due to a power crit. Just the defender left now.
But he is eventually worn down.
A solid scum victory.
Warhammer 40k: Tau vs Imperial Guard
On to the next game, this one was on Sunday. On of my colleagues expressed some interest in 40k so we set up a demo game I guess.
Were playing a Moddle Earth game on Wednesdsy so u set up the terrain to be good for both.
We drew open war cards and got capture the artifact at night. So who ever controls the doodad in the middle at the 3rd of turn 5 wins. But line of sight is severely reduced.
Turn 1 I advanced and captured the thing. Expecting to take little fire due to night.
Turns out guy in range let's everyone shoot now. Also the Tau were shooting on point, so almost all of my storm troopers were killed.
Tine for revenge. So my 8nfantry shot them charged the kronor killing them all! The Commissar charged the stealth guys but no effect sadly.
Tau consolidated the point and got to work killing guardsmen.
Soon it was the commander vs a Tau unit on close combat. He beat up z few of them but next turn they got wise and fell back and shot him all up.
So a win for the Tau sadly. We were z bit sketchy on the rules. Realized after the game I had the rule book, so guess I should read that and get the new guard book. Or maybe check if I already have it...
Thanjs for reading. Kind of want to paint more 40k stuff now, hmmm...
Thanks;
