Painting - Zombies!!

Hello Folks,

Time for the next big thing! Well sort of, really the next big thing is Aeitus and Arthur SAGA but I had to order some Decals to really get going on that. Also the new SAGA dice are out of stock which is really a bummer for me. But I have gotten the ball rolling on that the first unit is assembled and started.

But I decided to have a minor detour and paint a couple of Zombies, I thought it would be a good fun idea to do something light before getting into the next big project. Well painting Zombies turned out to be allot more fun and easy then I would have though so I just completed my box. Back around Cold Wars I got the Walking Dead All Out War! Box from Mantic Games. My main reasioning was that there wasn't tons of models in there so it would be easy to do hah. The game seems easy and fun also, so will have to try it out, they are billing it a bit as the ultimate gateway miniatures game, which seems true honestly.

Anyway here a few shots of my stuff:

Tree:

That's not a zombie? Ok true on Saturday I had to go to Hobby House to get some more clear spray, and I saw a pack of really big trees and some flowers and couldn't resist giving them a shot. I got a square base from the art store, they are selling ones now that are primed with Gesso for like a dollar, so I tossed this together which is pretty cool right. I left it in the back ground for the other pictures, have a second one to do which will be coming soon I guess.

Zombies!:

Here we have working guy zombie, regular joe zombie, and waitress zombie.I tried to give the working guy a plaid shirt which turned out ok. You can now see the bigness of the tree!

More Zombies:

Then there is skinny zombie, topless guts zombie, and mini skirit zombie. Ready to eat some brains and they have most of their arms.

Still Zombies:

Then we have work out zombie, republican zombie, and real estate agent zombie. I tried to write TRUMP on the hat for republican zombie, but this was not completely successful, but you can see it a bit. I perhaps got a bit carried away with the Vomit effect on the real estate agent zombie, but I just like that there is a vomit effect ok! For most of these I was using the I think army painter blood effect, but I realized towards the end the GW one is just a hundred times better, oh well.

Not done Zombies yet!:

Next to shamble past are hospital gown zombie, old man zombie, and boring T-Shirt zombie. I am not really sure what color hospital gowns are now days, I kind of felt like green. The internet was telling me there are a variety of colors so I went with blue. The last guy has a messed up foot and missing arm which is kind of fun as well!

Ok Last One:

Those are all the zombies you get in the core box, but when I was at Cold Wars, they gave me a free one! Turned out to be a duplicate waitress zombie, but it's free right. I just went for a different color dress. Was using the GW blood by now which you can see is better. Also the white aprons are great for showing of stains!

Survivors:

Of course you get some survivors as well. They are based on the comic book characters. This is Liam Carl and Rick. Carl and Rick I know from the show, Liam seems like he will soon be eaten thou...

Survivors 2:

Finally there is Sandra, Derek and Patrick. There game is set up a bit like Frostgrave where you are trying to scavenge loot items from another rival group and there are zombies around, just there are more of them I guess. Anyway, I like the baseball bat guy his bat is a bit bent, but that happens with this kind of use I guess!

So ya painting this set was allot of fun, will have to do some terrain and what not and give it a go. It comes with 2D cardboard stuff but that is not really up to snuff!

I tossed out the plastic insert and put in a magnetic sheet so now I can use the box as a storage!

There will most likely be more of this kind of stuff coming, so look forward to that! Hopefully will have some Romans and a bit of Western stuff for the next update.

Cangames - Part 2

Hello Folks,

Time for part 2 of the Cangames coverage! This time I will post some pictures and a bit of a battle report of the games where I was just an ordinary player.

Bagotrix Rides Out - Hail Caesar - 28mm:

The first one I have for you is Duncan's Roman game, which has become a tradition I guess? This year we have a bit more of a field battle, int a lightly wooded area. Lots of nice 28mm models as you can see, I think there were 9 people in this game, so it was a big one. I played on the angry British side, and commanded the naked fanatics in the bottom center. So I would have to wait my turn to murder some Romans.

First couple of turns both armies and mostly just advancing, and maybe trading a few shots. But on the left the Numidian cavalry has wasted no time in charging our lines. Sadly the rest of their  division has blundered and turn around into the woods!

After that there are quickly tons of charge. Both of our cavalry divisions are busy obliterating each other and I have advanced up the middle waiting for my turn to fight! Just need to barbarians in front to die! On the other side they are still playing around with the light horse for some reason.

The battle continues along, we are mostly trading units in the center and only a few mounted units remain. My Naked barbarians got restless so they had to charge a unit of Roman knights in the flank and now they are all dead. Looks like on the other flank they are starting to have some fun.

With all the mounted troops dead, the naked druids now move on to murdering the roman archers, which they do with ease. The rest of my troops have been left behind thou, but there fault for missing an opportunity for blood. Meanwhile everyone else is busy with the task of killing Romans.

Next turn the Romans finish the job of beating up our first command to get in the battle, but most of their units are in hard shape. As you can see in the pictures they have lots of cubes, and cubes are bad.

I sent in the rest of my guys and break some more Romans, and our last cavalry unit charged another in the flank, with the naked barbarians breaking yet another unit. At this point there are precious few Roman units left, not even the poor elephant has survived, so the game was called as a British victory! Good times had by all.

Seige of Fort William Henry - Bombards and Bayonets - 28mm:

Next up was Eds fort game, as pictured! John and I were given the task of defending this thing against the angry hordes of French. This game has a strategic half of the game where you trade cannons shots and they dig trenches, and bad things happen to the fort, and then a tactical part with a grand assault!

The French shoot lots of bad cannons at us a advance there trench. On our side we contracted small pox and caught on fire. This is pretty late in the strategic phase I think, our battery on the right has exploded, and the center sections is about to fall apart. But we sent a messenger through the woods full of Natives, escorted by Rangers, to Fort Albany for reserves and got an event which gave the maximum amount!

That is allot of French people, and our Fort now has a big hole. They set up some mortars in the forward section and were primed to blow us to smithereens, but John rolled a bucket of sixes, so they didn't get to stick around!

Seeing how the wind was blowing we sent everyone forward, and put the rangers in a house.

But the French blasted that house to shards in one shot! I complained we were told it was the safest spot, so most of the Rangers survived. Also Fort Albany turned up so we now have lots of guys, and the French came in the front door.

So we had a rather large assault, even the small pox guys got in there for a taste.

We were able to kill them all and capture a colonel, but lost our fancy hat grenadiers mostly. Lucky that our cannons all exploded to leave a nice place to have fights in! The Rangers were left to defend the walls and we used our leaders to shoot the remaining cannons. All the gunners were dead. They took a try at killing our guys, but only destroyed the cannons!

Eventually more French came in for our party and we fought them at the new gate.

We had lots of Red Coats and nice hats to use now thou so we kept pushing them back.

In the end almost all of our original guys were dead, just a few rangers and half the color party, but we still had almost all of the Albany guys. As you can see there is a distinct lack of Blue coated people in the trench and we are now marching out to get them! So this was a pretty successful defend for us, even virulent small pox couldn't keep down!

Fun game and nice terrain, always good to kill French people?

Docking of the SS Grozny - Force on Force on Z - 15mm:

For the last game we had our usual Force on Force weird laughs game. This time the ship from last year has shown up at a dock in Kenya? We had some African insurgents trying to get on there to get weapons, against some Americans trying to get the weapons. Also there were zombies!

This game was a tale of failure for us, we continually failed to activate our units and rolled bad resulting in event cards. This eventually gave us the result that the zombies were even more skilled the the Americans! Although we did have one early success and put 4 wounds on a sniper teams, and one on a fire team.

In the end most of our guys were killed, as we failed to get many re-enforcements, and the Americans locked thigns down with over watch. We managed to get one team on the ship and got a few victory points, but then got killed by bad zombies. The Americans had opened up a few crates and were a bit ahead on victory points, and they were able to kill some zombies! So it was a clear win for those guys. We had a good laugh at our failures in the first half thou so it was not as bad as it seems maybe?

Not that many pictures as it was late in the con, also Serge was not around to remind me to take pictures which may also have been a factor.

As a bonus here is a shot of Nick and George's huge Seven Years War game. Tons of guys shooting it out, each side had over a thousand miniatures!

Also George did a unit of NFLD Regiment, with blue putees, that is just cool so have to post a picture of that. They were using Flames of War Great War with 20mm stuff, which I think is pretty neat. Never played the game but I just assume these heroes carried the day.

So that is all for my Cangames coverage, feel free to let me know what you think, and feel free to post links to your own posts in the comments always nice to see what others were up to, lots of cool games going on so hard to be aware of all of them.

Thanks;
Mike

Cangames 2017 - Part 1

Hello All,

I attended our local convention this past weekend, Cangames, so time for some Cangames coverage. this year instead of breaking it up by day I am going to do one post for the games that I ran, and then a second one for the games that I played in. So to start with here are some pictures and a brief report of the games I ran:

Fall of Cadia - Epic Armageddon - 6mm:

Here is the initial set up, the Chaos forces on the left are attacking the imperial forces on the right, who have set up a few trenches. The 3 huge obelisks are the goal of the game really, both sides need to control these at the end of the game. They are ancient devices which could be used to banish the demons basically. It turned out that we only had 3 players, instead of 6 so I played on the imperial side and we dropped 2 of the armies from the game, and switched the blue Space Marines down so they could be played.

The red plastic things you see are explosions (pin counters) I didn't have enough of the painted ones for this big of a game.

Here is a shot part way through turn one. The Chaos forces on the bottom have advanced towards the temple. But their Cultists who are quite weak were assault by Assault Marines, who broke their formation and pushed them back. Some Plague Demons then advanced to fill the gap in the line. In my section some Chaos tanks advanced and fired into the trenches, they are assault guns that are designed to break these kinds of defenses and were quite effect, killing half of one infantry platoons and breaking them. I fired some artillery in the Chaos Titans, and then marched in my scout walkers to hem them in so they couldn't advance. I was worried that they would be able to destroy and Obelisk if they got to close.

Some Juggernauts of Khorne (big demon rhinos) are assaulting me second trench line. I got a few kills through weight of fire, but they gutted this platoon as well, and there are some other demons inside my lines to the right. But the Space Marines are coming up to support attacking the big demon.

Here we are at the start of the next turn. Some Space Marines have advance far forward to capture a jamming site, this was their secondary objective that allowed a unit of Terminators to teleport on. Some more Chaos demons arrived from the warp and are about to kill my artillery, this would complete their objective and killing things in close assaults. My tanks have managed to kill allot of the Chaos tanks and push them back, but they are really breaking through and into my lines.

Here we are a bit latter, lots of losses on both sides. My artillery was destroyed as expected, but I was able to go first and send my tanks to help, so the demons were killed as well. But all of my infantry is now wiped out! The Space Marines and trading heavy fire with the Plague Demons but neither side is calling it quits yet. Lucky for us we were able to kill one of the Titans and break their formation, so that is a big help.

The Juggernauts of Khorne then assaulted onto the hill and killed the Marines tanks in a close assault. Meanwhile the Plauge Demons engaged in a close fire fight with the Space Marines which saw a few losses on each side but wasn't really decisive.

The Plague Demons were able to complete their objective, which was to defile the temple, so they got a Death Wheel on from reserve. This broke a unit of Marines in an assault and they started to really close in on us.

The big red demon and his pall have killed of my tanks, so we now have only the Space Marines left to try and hang on.

But most of their units were broken of killed, so it was a clear victory for the forces of Chaos with Demons in control of both Obelisks, they will be destroyed shorty, and the Planet of Cadia is doomed to fall.

Samurai Battles Azukizaka (1564) - Pike and Shotte - 15mm:

The second game I ran was a Samurai game, a few people had been asking to do this type of game again. On the right we have the Samurai Army attacking a bunch of Warrior Monks and Peasants (Ikko Ikki) on the left, along with a group of Samurai that have betrayed their lord up by the big river. This time there was an extra player, so I split one of the commands in half. Again each of the players had a secret objective, such as get in the temple (big village) ect.. The main ones are that the commander of the Samurai had to get in a duel with the Monk commander, and the Samurai on the Monks side could turn traitor again and change sides if the Monk commander was killed in that duel!

Both sides got advancing swiftly, although the Samurai at the far end had allot of trouble passing command rolls, so their advance was a bit slow. On the close end thou no time was wasted charging the bamboo obstacles and quickly breaking a few units and pushing in. Peasants can't stand up to Samurai! On the center the monks deployed their ambush in the forest and started firing on the Samurai units.

On the close end the Samurai Cavalry that had pushed through the defenses were getting beaten up and pushed back by the Monks, so that command pulled back. In the center, the Samurai and chopping the the peasant militia with no problems, but the monks are giving them a good fight. On the far end the Samurai have advanced their Pikes to meet the charge, which is giving the Samurai a second thought.

The battle heats up in the center and the Samurai are becoming hard pressed, the monks have regained their defenses, and are sending a few units to advance and support the center. On the far side some continued failed command rolls, so that wing continue to stall and refuse combat. I guess they are not keen to fight their former comrades?

Around now the Samurai Commander (Tokugawa Ieyasu) fights his duel and kills the Monk commander, so the Samurai change sides! But they are really wavering now as many of their units are shaken, and the small unit of mounted monks has broken through as well.

The monks in the center have routed the Samurai facing them, having broken every unit! But they are now very hard pressed with 3 brigades of angry Samurai advancing on their flank from the far river, and the remnants of the mounted brigade moving to cut their retreat. We decided to call it here, as it was clear that the monks couldn't fight on 3 sides. But they have mainly broken through the Samurai center and given them heavy losses. So we decided to call it and indecisive victory for the Samurai. They have taken the field, but many of the Monks will escape to fight again, and despite a heroic duel, they have taken allot of losses.

Everyone seemed to enjoy it, so I was happy with the result, but some of the players were not able to get their armies really in the fight. I think next time we will try and modify slightly to make sure the armies are bale to advance from the start line. I am thinking about giving them at least one move until that battalion is near the enemy or something like that.

Hope you enjoyed that report, those were the 2 games I ran stay tuned to hear about the cool games I played in!

Thanks;
Mike
