Battle Report - X-Wing - Vader on Mustafar

Hello Folks,

Time for another Wednesday wargaming battle report! This week we are playing X-Wing again. I wanted to finally try out Dart Vader and Serge wanted to try some Scum and Villiany ships. So we just have a 50 point game.

I set up the terrain to be the volcanic planet Mustafar where Vader has his hang out. Change things up a but, instead of asteroils we have volcanic plumes!

I took Vader in a Tie Advance and Dark Curse in a Tie Fighter. The scum had a Y-Wing and 2 Z-95 Headhunters,  which are the previews version of an X-Wing or something.

Inital deployment.

Turn one the scum advance and Dark Curse swings over to support vader and gang up on a Headhunter. With a lucky crit they bring it down!

Next turn I need to get re-orientated so Vader heads around a plume and dark curse does a flip. Not much effective shooting this time but I think the Y lost a sheld.

Next turn Vader continues his trip, due to the plume he is not able to barrel roll to get a shit.  But Dark Curse glides past the Y-Wing to fight the second headhunter. I think on this turn he takes a damage.

Next turn we kind of go past each other and get ready for another pass.

Vader and his pal turn on the gas to focus on the Y-Wing doing some good damage, and slipping just out of the headhunters arc of fire.

Sadly the next go is not as great and Dark Curse gets shot down by a nice turret on the headhunter.

But Vader is able to turn in and take out the headhunter. His ability to take 2 actions is really paying off. Especially with the advanced targeting computer.

That leaves some poor random guy to have a dog fight with Vader...

But he is going down swinging.

But Vader is the able to get behind and sneak some shots through the plume.

Then close in fir the kill. A rare win fir the imperials, didn't even need a star destroyer this time!

Was fairly close vader was down to just 1 shield. I think if that 1 ship hadn't got a lucky crit on turn 1 and stayed to get a few shots in it could have been different but who knows.

I did enjoy the change up of the volcanic planet. Even if it is just visual hah.

Let me know what your thoughts are.

Thanks;
Mike

Cangames Part 2 - 2018

Hello Folks,

Time for part 2 of the cangames coverage. Thus post us fir the games where I was just a lowly player.

Seige of Fort William:

This was another seige game put on by Ed using his bombards and bayonets rules. This year doing the Jacobite rebellion.

I joined the Scotish side as they just have more fun.

Ft. William with a sloop of war watching over.

Jacobite batteries and sheep.

I concentrated my fire on the sloop, I thought it would be easy to sink. Also it's distressingly close to where my guys need to go. Our others players shot up the fort.

After a few turns of this allot of cannons were knocked out. So we decided to assault fairly early to avoid as many event cards as possible. They are rarely helpful!

Charge! We got a real dark night for our attack and the event put our reserves into the battle.

We just attacked everywhere there was space.

Pressing in close. I had 1 unit assault the grounded ship but they all died to its 2 remaining cannons.

Things started getting bad for the defenders as we pushed in.

Then an event gave us climbing equipment so our guys flew up the walls on mass. This was pretty much the end for the British. One unit escaped but the fort was ours.

Sails of Glory:

I also played in a Napelonic Naval game. To try out the sails of glory rules. They were pretty fun if a bit fiddly with allot of tokens.

I managed to sink 2 ships but lost my smaller one. And my 74 gunner was heavily damaged and had to slink away.

Finally I played in the DBA tournament but didn't take any pictures. Just forgot. I lost 3 out of 4 so just as well hah.

Overall cangames was a real fun time. Lots of cool stuff and good times.

Thanks;
Mike

Cangames Part 1 - 2018

Hello All,

So as many are probably aware this past weekend was Cangames. Our local gaming convention. Was a real fun time as usual. I thought I would follow my normal procedure and do a 2 part post, first part will talk about the games I ran and part 2 for ones I played in.

A bit busy keeping things running so these are more some cool shots / moments.

Old West Showdown:

On Friday I decided to run an Old West game. Original idea was to use Dead Man's Hand, but a few weeks back I decided to change my ming and do Legends of the Olde West instead. It's a bit better for more players I think. Was scheduled for 4 players but allot of people wanted in so I doubled it to 8 by half in the Forces.

Here is the set up. Nothing fancy just the outlaws and desperados coming in from the left to have a shoot out with the law on tge right.

Desperado decided on some extra circular bank robbing and took hostages.

Eventually both sides moved into range and started blasting each other. Allot of action broke out around the Marshes office.

Things about to go down.

Band plays a lively tune.

From gun fights we progress to fist fight. The trail boss got beat up and the Sherrif and his deputies are taking heavy fire. Things are going really well for the criminals.

The law starts to pull back and the fighting spills into the street.

Someone goes down.

The prize fighter is fighting everyone at once!

Lots of bad guys not so much law. The farmer got knocked out and spilled his loot.

In the end the Law was forced to retreat leaving the Outlaws I'm control of the town for Now!

Helms Deep:

Second game was Helms Deep, co-stated by Serge who built the terrain. His report is here:

http://sergesminiatures.blogspot.ca/2018/05/helms-deep-battle-at-cangames-in-ottawa.html?m=1

But I will post mine anyway.

Full table set up.

The keep with Theoden and some men of Rohan defending.

Deeping wall defended aby elves, men and the three hunters.

Battering ram starts knocking on the door.

Uruk-Hai going up seige ladders.

Culvert exploded so they are now pushing on 2 sides.

After a bit of a jam the trolls come in and push through.

Gandalf arrives with Eomer and the men of the west fold to the rescue.

They charge straight for the gap.

Gandalf fights a Troll!

In the end Gandalf and Eomer are unable to break the forces of Isengard. We ended up with a minor Evil victory, they accomplished all of the seige objectives and took the fortress. But failed to kill the important characters (Gandalf, Aragorn, Theoden). So it is still possible for thw forces of good to rally.

Will add another post in the next couple of days with the games I just played in.

Thanks;
Mike

Painting Update - Lots!

Hello Folks,

Been way way to long, a couple of months I think, but finally got around to doing another painting update. Got trapped in a cycle of wanting to finish a few more things before doing it hah.

This is allot of stuff so bear with me, feel free to scroll through. Also I took pictures of the Rohan stuff as I was packing it for Helm's Deep so it's a bit repetitive instead of all at once.

Mounted Eomer:

First up the model I literally finished tonight. Mounted version of Eomer ready to releive Helms Deep on Saturday. (We are doing the movie version.

Warriors of Rohan:

First set of warriors. These models are a bit old and maybe not the best technically. But I quite like them, they paint up cool and are not to hard to do. Especially like the front guy on the elft with his sword down.

Captain of Rohan and more Warriors:

Second set of warriors, plus a horn guy and captain form the command set. I really am a fan of that captain about to murder an orc! Such a great model.

Even more Warriors:

Just another set of warriors. Some with red and some with green shields. So I can have some westfold red shields if I want.

Kings Huntsman + Warriors + Rohan Royal Guard:

Finally a more special group. A few more warriors plus some Royal Guard ready to protect their king. Lastly a fun model game wise, the kings huntsman who want to shoot some special guys and monsters in the face.

Specters:

A few spooky ghosts to support Mordor. I painted these on a whim one night for a game, but ended up playing Rohan instead.

Battering Ram:

Last Uruk-Hai thing needed for helms deep, of course a battering ram to smash in the gate. Actually turned out to be pretty cool. I was worried it would be a huge pain to glue the big heavy metal ram to the guys but it wasn't a big deal after all. The back right guy is barely touching the ground thou hah.

Gandalf the White:

Can't save Helm's Deep without Gandalf the White on Shadowfax. So here he is. Kind of an annoying model being big metal and supported by a single hoof. There was no way to put him on a thin base so I kept the normal one.

Blood Eagle:

Had to do this model just for fun. Seems he really pissed off the wrong viking!

Dwarf Statues:

Another things I just felt like doing one day. These are cool terrain pieces, but not really any real reason hah.

Army of the Dead:

Literally painted these guys tonight as well hah. Had them for awhile, but on Monday I just felt like I suddenly had to do them. REally fast to do but I think the green ghostly effect works. These are the real old metal models which are great in my opinion. I put a bit of metal on the crown and some metal bits felt that was a nice feature.

Magore's Fiends:

Well over the past while I have been kind of procrastinating on painting Gandalf if I am honest. Anyway I painted up a few of these Khorne dudes. They are just really fun models so I just wanted to work on some. This is the shadespire set.

Blood Warriors:

Pair of quick build Blood Warriors with Gorefist. IDea is that they can go with the 3 above to make a unit of 5 guys.

Blood Warriors Command:

Start of another unit of Blood Warriors. These guys are one of the basic troops.

Skull Grinder and Slaughter Priest:

A couple of heroes to lead my little army. A smith swinging his anvil around, and a priest hah.

Wrathmongers:

Finally mu Fav and the reason I have any of these guys, the Wrathmongers! These guys are just crazy swinging around hammers on big chains so whats not to love. One guy even has 3 arms. These Khorne and just stupidy big meat men which is just good fun!

Phew so that's all I have for now!

Post cangames I am planning to knock out some smaller projects and just do whatever I feel like so should be more smaller posts. First up is some Jovian Chronicles stuff.

Still keeping up the count.

Pledge Status, 2017:

Bought: 132 (added some stuff as well, basically the stuff from Cold Wars plus the Khorne guys)
Painted: 140 (above is a big 67 guys!)
Total: 8

Just barely staying positive hah nice.

Thanks;
Mike
