Battle Report - Game of Thrones

Hello All,

Still catching up on battle reports. Have one more pair for me  but bound to be more in the future of course.

Last Wednesday was a Game of Thrones gaming day. 30 points, I went with the high sparrow as commander to see how that worked.

Game 1:

First game we played the mission with random objective cards. I forget what it's called but you draw cards that have objective you getnpints for completing. Like take an objective or a certain slot on the tactics board. For this battle the Starks had no non-combat characters, which can make it hard to get some of them.

Initial set up, I put one unit to come over the hill and try a flank.

As it turned out i got pretty lucky with the cards. I was able to achieve 2 3 point cards and you only need 8 to win I think. So we never made it out of turn 3. The cards were cool but clearly need some non-combst guys on both sides.

Game 2:

For game 2 we decided to just have kill points. Murder all you can. Tge Stsrks adjusted their list slightly to fit in Eddard so he can do the off board stuff.

Kind of the same set up. Starks have 2 wolves now which gives an activation advantage.

Just a bit of advancing for turn 1.

Turn 2 the fighting starts. My hlaberds having a hard time. The starks had a card preventing their set for charge rule!

Think mix up get worse. My guys on the hill are flanked by a wolf, and he just went die. I got most of my halberd back but now my right flank is taking z pounding from the excellent archers.

Eventually we ran out of time.

No units were killed yet so I guess it's technically a tie. But as you can see the lanisters are taking a pounding! So we decided to call it a Stark win.

Thanks;
Mike

Battle Report - Art de la Guerre

Hello folks,

Have another battle report for you. Lots going on lately so have been working through them. Last Friday was the historical gaming club day, got a chance to play some ADG. I took my War of the Roses army for a spin and Bad Duncan had some French ordinance. These armies are kind of similar.

This game is kind of like a cross between DBMM or DBA and field of glory. There were a few people around so some interest at least.

Here's the deployment. I set up with my 3 wings in a line. Archers in the center, pikes holding the line by a field and a bunch of foot knights hoping to get around the flanks. Duncan took a more compact formation with archers backed up by foot knights behind.

Slow advance. I didn5 move to much as artillery is stationary and I didn't want to leave it behind. I would have not taken this stand, but thus is all my units and I am still short of 200 points!

Getting close now, my German mercenary likes started taking fire from the French archers and took a disruption.

Left flank fully engaged now and an on going arrow battle as the center and right wings close. My pines are having z hard time, but my mass of archers in the center are doing well.

Guess I missed a turn or 2! But how we have chaos fighting all along the line. On the left I charged my knight general into the field to fight the archers without thinking and he got killed. The center went well, but on the right my 4 foot knights are losing to 2!

Well I quickly reached the break point and became demoralized, so a win for the French. I think it was the general that did me in we were pretty ost otherwise. Generals getting killed is not good it seems!

Thanks;
Mike

Saga Battle Report - Aeitus & Arthut

Hello Folks,

Yesterday I had a chance to play another game of Saga with Duncan. We went for an Aeitus and Arthur game, I wanted to try the scenarios in the new rules. I thought they would work much better which turned out to be true.

I took my Romand again, plan was to have a Roman civil war, but Dumcans were not blues to big trays so it was against the Britons instead!

We played the Camp Fire Scenario. Where both forces are having a drink and things go bad.

I italicize deployment. Thus has units setting up all over so you try and surround units if you want. I put some archers in the tower and kind of firmed a line. It's a pain to reach to far across!

The Britons went first and spent the turn resting and setting up defences.

I decided to try and kill some cavalry  do I moved some infantry and through some plumbate, then charged them. Managed to kill all 5 only losing 1 guy.

Next turn the Britins found out how strong their warlord can be and just murdered my guy.

I am fumbling a bit, but decided to try and put some pressure on the levy, best up some one easy!

But the Britins warlord went on another murder spree. Mauling my infantry. I couldn't even kill 1 of the companions!

I decided to strike back and get rid of the pesky priest. W
He was just expose so I could get my guys in there. Just barely managed to kill him!

The Britibs are not about to let that stand so kill my units in return.

I tried to get some more kills but was real short on dice. I moved up and threw plumbate killing 1 guy and shotcsone archers.

In the end we had a solid tie. I think it was 15 to 14 or something like that. Was a great game, I like thus period and the scenarios work much better with the new rules. I think they were made with that in mind.

Thanks;
Mike

Fall-In - 2018 - Part 2

Hello Folks,

Time for the second round of Fall-In coverage. This time I am going to show all the non-tournament stuff I got up to. Basically a battle report and some random pics of cool games.

Force on Force:

On Friday morning we got into a nice force on force game. It was meant to be a u hour Grozny game, but thankfully that never fit in their car so we got s seal team hostage rescue instead. Me and Chris took the seals and the GM the insurgents.

Set up, our mission should we choose to accept it is to rescue a hostage from the base bottom right and get them to the river in the middle. We had a bunch of seals and snipers in the ruins / field half way up.

Turn 2 or 3. Lots of dead insurgents. Hostage rescued and traveling up. You can see some of our guys just inside the wall. We have been having some good luck so most of the insurgents hold troops are placed out of the battle, and they are doing poor on morale tests.

Now we are breaking out of the compound just in front of the shell hole. Running across thus bit of open terrain is the most dangerous part.

Taking cover in the hole for a bit. We are concentrating now on clearing a path to the boat. Time is tight so it's a stretch to make it.

Almost there just need 1 more move.

Last turn, we made the deadline just in time. And the bomb we left in the base exploded. No US guys even got woundedxso it was a total victory for us.

Random Game Shots:

As promised here are a few pics of interesting games. Might find s few cool ideas or inspiration.

No one was around but this is a very well done table.

Cool sub table.

Nice set of woody terrain.

Cool rural town.

Fun table for gas lands.

People playing saga!

Galleys! Looks fun.

Some kind if Asian table.

Nice dungeon crawl.

Zombies! Apparently thus game was great fun.

Very cool Old West table. That is allot of buildings! Bruce was having fun playing in this one.

Purchases:

Last year it was suggested to have a few pictures of the purchases. Big thing is all the pirates on the top. My plan is to do a Peter Easton game, and also some games for the Avalon Pensuila campaign of 1697. Siege of Carbonear Island!

Also found a few old war master sets in the flee market so grabbed them as well. Planning to get into this at some point.

Also got a few new game of thrones boxes, pyromancers and crossbows not pictured. Also got a box of Greeks in the flee market. I enjoyed painting them before so thought it might be good to do some more.

Thanks;
Mike

Fall-In 2018 - Part 1

Hello Folks,

This past weekend it was once again time to head down to Pensylvznia for the great wargaming pilgramage. Thus year went quite well, all the rooms were newly renovated and we never ended up in any bad games. So that is really a win.

As usual I am going to do 2 posts, first one will give a brief report on the tournament I played in. Second will be the pick up games I played, random pictures, and new acquisitions!

Epic Armageddon Tournament:

As has been the trend lately I took the chance to play in the Epic tournament. I like 0laying and it is not so popular, so a good chance to get some games in.

I went with a Steel Legion list this year. Was hoping to do some Tyranids but they never made it up the painting queue.

Game 1: vs Eldar, Saim Hann

Here is a shot part way through turn 1. The eldar are very fast and tricky, so lots of unit making attacks picking apart my tanks. As you can see orange units are all 8ver the place.

Feeling a bit surrounded during thus assault by jet bikes into my infantry. Space stalingrad?

I broke some units but the eldar are killing and pushing back units everywhere. Really hard to get a bead on them.

End result is a victory for the eldar with my main and a side objective taken, but my tanks held out!

Game 2: vs Titans!

Second game vs big scary titans. I kinda knew this would be a problem. I felt like only my tanks are well equipped to fight back and they can't do it all alone.

Here's the set up, titans masked on the left flank.

Moving up and taking some shots. Putting down shields and not much else.

Doesn't take them long to kill the tanks. I 2as doing well but had a round of bad rolls. Thus is not good!

In the end u couldn't do much, they killed my tanks and took 2 objectives so a win for them.

Game 3: vs Orks

Now to fight the green tide. I felt better about this.

Lots of advancing and trading shots. But things are either really tough or in covrmer so it's hard going.

Making some good pushes on the right but stalled on the left.

Tried to kill thecstomoas and get break their spirit but the super stomps lived and was fearless. Just couldntvfinish him.

Big assault in 1 building. I came close to getting 2 objectives to win but was 1 short. After the points adding we had a tie!

I ended up in second last place whichbis not a great showing. But all the games were great fun so can't complain about that!

Check back for part 2!

Thanks;
Mike
