Battle Report - Cruel Sead

Hello Folks,

This weekend we got to have another game of cruel seas. Original plan was to try something else but that got pushed back, so cruel seas it is.

More models have been added in the quest for ships. This time I have a brand new Flower Class Corvette, and Duncan's agent had painted up a few american MTBs and a liberty ship. So we went for a convoy mission, king of a test for Duncans cangames ideas.

So we had a line with the liberty ship, merchant tanker, and flower. Next tobitxa line with the Americans and a fairmile d. We made a big mistake having the escorts of the wrong side of the liberty but live and learn. You can really see how huge the liberty ship is.

British convoy. Attacking where 3 German E boats and the flak ship.

The Germans got the jumped and all the E boats advanced firing on the Corvette and launching torpedoes at the liberty ship. The Corvette turned to engage, but his supports were trapped behind the liberty ship so it was badly outnumbered.

Next turn all the torpedoes arrived at the liberty which promptly exploded. The flak ship had done allot of damage. Sadly the Corvette also went down. But 1 MTB and the fairmile arrived and started putting a hurt on the Germans.

Next turn we had a pursuit around the liberty ship. The fairmile d managed to sink 1 e boat thou.

Next turn I think we got a second e boat, or at least it was close. But lost the others leaving just the merchant tanker with 1 engine hit steaming for safety.

But the last e boat kicked up to full speed and chased it down. Finishing it off with a blaze of fire. With out the engine hit the tanker may have escaped but it was not meant to be. A solid victory for the germans with much tonnage sunk!

Thanks;
Mike

Painting Update

Hello Folks,

Finally time for the first painting update of the year! Way late getting to this due to laziness. Well kinda had a slow start to things on Janurary as well. But got lots of stuff done.

Necrons:

The biggest new project I have been working on are the Necrons as mentioned previously. Started off with the get collecting set.

Start Collecting Necrons:

So basically you get some warriors and scarabs, 5 immortals, an Overlord, Lord and Anhiliation Barge. Great set.

Have added a few things as well. Duncan gave me another box of warriors and scarabs so I have those, plus the following:

Tomb Spyder:

Cryptec:

All that bring me to 1000 points in 7th edition so a good base for an army. Have some other things to add as well but mainly on to new projects.

Pipes Terrain:

I also did a bunch of sci fo pipes to add on to my Martian themed table. Here is a small sample to see what they are like.

Panzer 4s:

Did a few quick tanks for a club game. Panzer 4s ended up being terrible but you learn these things as you go along hah.

Marder:

Same for marders but they are great.

Fairmile D:

Another ship for cruel seas. Have more to get done by cangames for a game Duncan is organizing. Big star to come being a Flower Class Corvette.

LoTR:

One of Gothmogs lts. Have lots more lord of the rings stuff to do. Probably get back to that in the summer.

French Pirates:

The latest thing I have been working on is more French for my Carbonear island game. Planned for cangames. Look forward to seeing lots more 17th century guys and ships in the coming months!

Pledge Status, 2018:

Bought: 75
Painted: 62
Total: -13

Been a bit slow getting the first painting post for the year done. To be honest I waited to long and then it just seemed like allot of work! But I still plan to do these and keep track of things, hopefully on a more regular basis.

Still doing decent pledge wise, but another round of purchases coming up at Cold Wars hah.

Thanks;
Mike

Battle Report - Warhammer 40k 8th Edition

Hello All,

Time for another Wednesday wargaming battle Report! This week we decided to go fir another game of 40k, but not that this game is using the 8th edition rules, last few have been with 7th.

I took my Necrons of course and Serge had sone Space Marines, arimes are about 900 points. We used the Open War cards to get a mission. Basically a triangle shaped deployment, 3 o jectives to capture in 5 turns, and armies are split into 3 parts and come on in turns 1, 2, and 3.

Here we are after my turn 3. Started with the overlord, barge, and warriors. They ar advancing using the big mesa to try and limit return fire and focus down the dangerous hellfire guys. The gold coins are the 3 objectives, the Marines back objective was pretty open so I sent some more warriors and a cryptec to try and collect that.

On their turn 4 the marines brought in a dreadnought some scouts and an Lt to try and defend their point. You loose immediately if the other side has all 3. I brought my final wave to pressure the center.

Marines get ready to try some assaults.

Blurry but lots of fights. Most of the are a slog as we both have thought units. But particularly the scouts lock down the warriors in the back keeping them in the game. But the Nevrons keep regenerating which makes the thought to eradicate.

Working hard to secure the center and keep the marines busy around the far objective. My spider managed to kill a Lt which is good fun. But the 1 remaining hrllblaster fighting all the scarabs for turns and turns just wint die.

The dreadnought finally gets into combat which is the end of those warriors, but the cryptec sells his life as a distraction by moving right on the objective.

In the middle I am able to get the immortals on the objective, and there is to much stuff in the way keeping them safe. The Necrons have a special rule to secure objectives so are able to claim it.

So a 2-1 victory for the Necrons!

Definitely makes me want to paint more stuff!

Thanks;
Mike

Battle Report - Stalingrad Turn 2

Hello Folks,

Time for another battle report. This week is the next round of the clubs Stalingrad campaign. My assigned battle ended up being Breakthrough again against Serge this time.

I changed out my list a bit basically replaced Panzer 4s for Marders.

My strategy this time is to be much more conservative and stick to cover. Try and have every advantage. But there is a need to be within 8" of the objective or I loose. I have only a few platoons in my formation so I can't afford any of them for breakthrough duties, so I sent my firestorm tanks and AA trucks.

Deployment. Germans massed in a crop field, Russian infantry set to take the objectives. This set up is more reminiscent if counter attack. But the Russuans have AT guns to hold the line.

Turn 1 I moved out my Panzer 2s, they are bait to try and draw the Russian ambush. The guns were 7 to hit for my main tank force so they went to ground.

Russians never took the bait but the guns and there commander killed the 2s. Infantry moved to the outside objective.

With the Russian commander out to play I brought up the Marders and took him out. My full 5ank force fired on the guns and killed both. Plans going good so far.

So way was clear to move then. I advanced on mass. By now it was turn 3 or so and reserves were turning up. I tucked my trucks into the corner of the wood so they would be just within 8 of the objective.

Russians finally dropped that ambush and got 2 kills.

I tried to push forward and fight the tanks now in the wood. But there is 5 more behind it. Rest of the reserves showing up also so a secondary tank fight gets started in the other wood.

I'm fighting back best I can, but as you can see the numbers game is not going well. Lots of destroyed tanks. The big Russian platoons can soak allot of fire.

Really on the edge of losing now. My company is almost broken, down to just 2 platoons. Also I am barely making the 8" requirement to contest.

Almost have my central tank platoon in range of the objective, but my reserve tanks got wiped out. All the Russians need to win is to kill a couple of trucks.

Which of course they do, so a win for them. Really though to attack the Russians with the way the game is, but gave it a good go. Took out 3 platoons this time so was allot better.

Here's a few shots of other games going on. For prosterity.

SAGA

Un-fun number of Russian Infantry

mines!

Paper Work - Public Service the Game

Fire and Sword, got allot of arm in this shot
