Battle Report - Black Seas

 Hello Folks,

Busy weekend for gaming it turns out. Today finally got around to trying out Black Seas with Duncan.

He some island bits and wanted to use those, for some reason Hasty Retreat stood out to me so we tried that scenario.

The Americans have some ships at anchor, with a frigate loading troops, this guy then has to escape, as the Royal Navy swoops in to blast em. We changed the lists up a bit and added some gun boats, I just find them fun!

Also I still never did the sails and rigging on my ships as I'm a bad person. So just we have to deal with it.

Here's the set up, yanks at anchor wind blowing from the west (left).

I sail on in, and the Americans start to move. Their lead frigate was still loading troops so he had to stay put.

You move pretty far actually, so the action immediately got hot. This one American bring really taking a hammering. But the troops were loaded and the game was afoot.

This very brave brig tried to board the troop frigate, but sadly failed to grapple. Only 1 hit left for this brig so worth a shot.

Unfortunately as the Americans got moving, my fleet had sailed directly into the harbour. Possibly not the best plan ever. So just as the Americans were escaping I had to anchor and try to turn. But their 1 brig had struck it's colours and the troop frigate had some good damage so there was a chance.

But then my 1 brig that was in a good position was well and truly sunk,  perhaps not ideal. Meanwhile the gun boats have a right old skirmish.

I got things moving again, but the troop ship was annoyingly far away, and the sea was clogged up with boats! 1 of them got ran over actually.

On the last turn I wasn't quite able to get a last shot on the troops ship, which could possibly have made him strike with very good luck. So that guy escaped, and on of my brigs was forced to strike. So perhaps not the most storied victory for the Royal Navy, but we still have a frigate, and I assume brigs are cheap to build so no real harm.

In the end this was a very fun game. Has a good balance between being easy and fun, but still have some decent navaly stuff. We made a few mistakes about damage but no big deal.

Quite possibly some more ships in the future I dunno. Honestly seems like I will just get the Royal Navy Fleet set and just paint a few ships here and there as I feel like it.

Thanks;

Mike

Battle Report - Club Day - Age of Magic

 Hello Folks,

Yesterday we had the next club day! This time its Saga Age of Magic. As discussed in the last post I took my Lizardmen as Lords of the Wild.

Ended up facing Norm and his great company. We played the random mission, I wrote down the rolls but, suffice to say that the objective is murder, you can get a bonus for surviving, and its on the short edges.

Here we are after my first turn. I got full dice but no fancy abilties. So just pressed forwards a bit.

The great ones advaced a wizard and electrocuted 2 of my Sarus Cav which I felt was a bit rude.

So the rest charged out and flattened that guy. Meanwhile the skinks moved up and tossed javelin at the nasty Paladin on the hill. Helped out by my wizzard. Never killed him, but he is now distinctly unhappy.

The kingdoms really ran down my cav, without taking damage even, with the dragon coming up to roast some orange skinks.

The Kroxigor took umbrage to that and pounded the dragon into the dust with their mighty clubs. He just barely survived the first charge so I just went again!

Other stuff kept pressing forward on the men who were to scared to move.

The nasty mounted continued their advance and killed my krocs. But I think they took a few hits this time. Why are these warriors so hard to smash!

The orange skinks will of course seek revenge. Pretty great luck this time so their pointy sticks kill allot!

The kingdoms advance into archery range, time fir shooting.

My turn i advanced on the archers with the blue skinks and shot then charged! Turns out charging levy is not that effective hah! They got driven back hard by the other big mass of cav.

No problem the warlord can fight those boys on his own! Poisoned up his blade and killed like half!

Sadly immediately died next turn. Guess I forgot the pictures after that. But it ended up as a good victory for the humans, they managed more murder on this day!

Other guys were playing a big old battle. Not really sure what's going on in this mess but seems fun!

So that's magic day.

Thanks;

Mike

Painting Update - Lizardmen

 Hello All,

Just a small update today. Painted a few new lizards for the club day. Also as a bonus some Samurai Artillery!

Samurai Artillery:

First here is the cannon. Thought this was a fun model, turned out easy to paint as well.

Sarus Oldblood:

Next up a new warlord option for the lizards. Really I wanted to have a smaller option as I have to ride the bus/train thus time do giant dinosaurs can be annoying.

Razordon:

My thinking here was to use this guy as mobile Artillery. But turns out that is not allowed for lord of the wild. Oh well.

Skinks:

Finally my second unit of skins only had 10 models, so I did 2 more to bring them up to standard.

Pledge Status, 2020:

Bought: 210
Painted: 195
Total: -15

Battle Report - 40k Tau vs Guard

 Hello Folks,

Had the chance to have another game of 40k. I took my newly painted Imoerial Guard reinforcements, to fight a bunch of Tau.

Used the new 9th edition open wae cards to make a scenario even though we are playing 7th edition.

The objective was destruction, and the twist was a storm which reduces movement of everything by 1", which I felt fit the table. I used the ice terrain, have to beat the heat!

Here we are after my first turn. The deployment was basically me in the corners and tau in a central triangle. Just advanced, with maybe some minor damage.

The Taubhit back pretty hard, killing a sentinel and damaging my tank but nothing serious.

My turn to fight back. The tank pressed forwards hoping to unload its assault troops with flames next turn but is dangerously in the river. I managed to destroy the pirahana gun ship, and beat up the tau suits a bit, tried charging them with the sentinels, but never made it in. No look with my lascannons on taking out the tank sadly.

The Tau hit back pretty brutally. Killing my tank and most of its guys. Only the primaries payer lived, though wounded. Annoying he froze to death in the river before he could bring his pyromamcy powers to bear!

Starting to loose the ability to strike back now. But my storm troops jumped in via deep strike behind the lines and did some good damage. Plus the sentinels got into combat. Even better I was able to kill the stealth suits in close combat.

The Tau were able to easily kill the elite guys behind their lines, maybe that was a bit risky. And also killed my forward infantry unit.

Still had a couple of turns to play but that pretty much sealed things for the Tau, they win today but the Empire of man always has more grist for the grinder!

Thanks;

Mike

Painting Update - Imperial Guard

 Hello All,

Finally time for another painting update. Got allot done, but got lazy their for a bit so decided to wait until I was done with the Guard and just post it all at one.

Also got some bits of scatter terrain done as a bit of a break.

Senior Command Squad:

Really pleased with how the banner turned out on this one.

Infantry Platoon:

Next up I have a platoon of basic infantry. 2 squads with a lascannon team,  plasma gunner and sergeant, a support weapon squad of six guys with 3 snipers and 3 spotters, and finally a junior officer command squad. Quite allot of guys!

Primaris Psyker:

Lastly a psyker to cast some magic powers. Another great model, love all their weird wires that are plugged into this guys head.

Scatter Terrain:

Also got Mantic Games latest terrain box kickstarter so to a break to paint up a few bits of that stuff. Mostly scatter terrain for modern / post apocalypse type stuff. But they have some other bits in there as well. Allot of fun to paint up, I am particularly fond of the arm chain dunno why.

Group Shot:

Heres a group shot of all the Imperial Guard stuff I have done now. Moved up from a small skirmish size army to a fully fledged 40k army. So have a few options to play around with now. There of course is more stuff I would like to add, but going to take a bit of a break and work on some other bits. Bound to get back to these guys eventually thou.

Annoyingly Blogger has moved to a new interface. Doesn't seem like they made any improvements just moved things around slightly. But it probably unusable from a phone now, once you start typing you can access the bar to add photos and stuff. Maybe I am just grumpy who knows.

Battle Report - Saga Club Day!

Hello Folks;

The club returns! Everyinecwearing masks and keeping apart, as it should be, but great to  get a club day!

Game of the day was Saga, Age of Vikings. I decided to try some Normans with a bunch of Knights plus some archers and crossbows.

Ended up playing Jeff's Vikings. We did the random roll scenario, but skipped the terrain roll as I just set it up. We ended up with a pretty normal set up for slaughtering points.

Here we are after my first turn, not to much moving due to only having 3 dice.

Vikings advance on all fronts.

Started the action for me. Got pretty perfect saga rolls. The archers used volley fire to start peppering the warriors getting some kills, meanwhile the small knight unit rushes out and wipe out some warriors.

The Vikings move around but dont have a great position for counter charging. But kill half my crossbows with shooting. On my turn I shift them out of the way and charge with the next set of knights, crushing another warrior unit.

Vikings are able to hit back a bit killing some more knights.

I'm able to keep up my plan of archery and charging. The knights fight the levy whose archery is becoming a pain, killing 7, just enough to cost them another saga dice. When the vikings try to charge back I am able to interrupt with envelepoment and move back the knights. Still take a loss t8 the archers thou.

My turn I bring up the next units of knights, but di allot worse and loose most of them. My archers continue bleeding the warriors on the left thou.

More viking shooting kills another pair of knights.

Final turn for me sees a disastrous charge against some hearthguard. Loosing more knights.

The vikings finish the unit with shooting.

In the end I'm ahead in the points, but only by 3 or 4. So it's a win by the Norman's but by no means crushing.

The new Norman's were great fun. Lots of activation abilities, so it's really easy to keep you units moving around and effective. Will have to try them again.

Next club day is Age of Magiv which I am quite looking forward to as well!

Heres a few shots of the other games.

There was a 4th game but I never got a shot of that one. Some people also did a second round.

Was a great club day, fantastic to see everyone again. Really look forward to the next!

Thanks;
Mike
