Painting - Pagan Rus, P47 Thunderbolt, Magister Knight

Hello folks, so I got some more painting done so time for another update.

Pagan Rus:

So first up I finished up another set of 6 levy with javelins. Nothing special about them compared to the last guys really but moving things along.

Think they turned out pretty good.

Paints Used:

Foundry:
Flesh Shade, Flesh, Flesh Light

GW:
Leadbelcher,  Kantor Blue, Khorne Red, Wazdaka Red, Chaos Black Spray

Liquitex:
Black Ink, Umber Ink

Army Painter:
Soft Tone, Electric Blue, Bondi Green

Vallejo:
Brown Violet, Chocolate Brown, Deck Tan, Dark Sand, White, Black, Ivory, Dark Grey, Wood Grain,  Flat Earth, Neutral Grey, German Camo Beige, Smoke, Japanese Uniform, Luftwaffe Green, US Tan Earth, Smoke

Baccus Basing Kit for bases plus some flock

So having those guys painted finished off my Pagan Rus starter warband from Gripping beast that I got at cold wars so figured I would give you a shot of the full group.

Quite pleased with how these guys turned out, it is a nice set. I switched out all the spears they came with for brass ones so I got a bunch of extra parts as well.  Time to start on the more fancy russians from Novgorod now, I have the Rus Princes starter for that along with the Nevsky and Chums set. All ready got started on Nevsky which is a really great figure. You might consider that there is no way to get all that done before Cangames, which is true. But really I just need to get Nevsky and a few mounted, I can expand out the foot guys a bit more using the more eastren looking Vikings I have plus a few Varangian Guard. So no worries really.

Thunderbolt:

Next up I did a quick job of a plane to support our ongoing campaign, just so we don't have to suffer through borrowing Serges British plane which is not quite right! This guy ended up being a huge pain in the rear, the model itself is fine, no trouble to assemble and paint it, I cheated a bit and looked for a color scheme that seemed easy. But the decals are the white paper ones (I believe they are printed by the devil). The water slide transfers that are on white paper are terrible and rip easy and don't slide easy, not a great mis. Also the ones for planes tend to be large so everything is harder for them.

So do to this almost every one I tried to use ripped and caused me trouble. You can't see it much do to the angle of this picture only one is visible but trust me it sucks.

It's serviceable thou and I don't use air support the much so no big deal.

Paints Used:

GW:
Leadbelcher,  Khorne Red, Wazdaka Red, Dawn Stone Chaos Black Spray

Army Painter:
Soft Tone, Electric Blue, Bondi Green

Vallejo:
Brown Violet, Black

Magister Knight:

Finally I have an infinity guy that I painted up.

War Paints:
Electric Blue

GW:
Leadblecher, Wazdaka Red, Kantor Blue, Khorne Red, The blue Ink, Chaos Black Spray

Black Ink

Vallejo:
Chocolate Brown, Deck Tan, Dark Sand, White, Black, Ivory, Dark Grey, Wood Grain,  Flat Earth, Neutral Grey, German Camo Beige, Smoke, Japanese Uniform, Luftwaffe Green, US Tan Earth, Smoke

You may be wondering why I switched from using the Black Gesso for primer to the GW spray. This is simply because I ran out of it and when I went to the art store down town to get more they didn't have any! Haven't gotten around to going to get more yet.

As usual let me know what you think of all this.

Pledge Status 2015:
Bought: 142 (2 P47 Thunderbolt, and Patton)
Painted: 87 (6 Rus, 1 Plane, 1 Knight)
Total: -55

Thanks;
Mike

  1. Nice update Mike...I have a love hate relationship with transfers and decals...there have been some that were absolutely outstanding and easy to use...others...well, you know...

  2. Ya mainly the blue ones are easy and the white ones are garbage, but could be some exceptions. It didn't help my mood that they had a picture of the decal sheet on the box which was clearly the blue ones and then I ended up with white, that is just lying to me.

You seem to have a fair amount of things that fly to so that only makes it harder as the decals tend to be bigger. I am going to assume that the big teeth ones that come with the helicopters causes ulcers.

    1. Thankfully I saw enough pics of Huey's WITHOUT United states army on the tail boom...after about 5-6 attempts I decided I'd rather stare at the sun with binos than try again...the teeth were 50:50...first one lulled me, the 2nd split in half, the attempts to replace and salvage were trying to say the least...I feel some of your pain...
