Painting Update - Lizardmen Wave 3

Hello Folks,

But if a smaller update this time I guess, but been awhile so figure its time. This wave is all about mounted units which are often a struggle for me so progress was a bit less.

Sarus Cavalry:

First up the heavy hitters! These are the current plastic models from the Sarus start collecting box. They are actually a bit older so kind of disappointing to see GW not go for a new kit but they are still pretty cool.

I also have a set of the older version with plastic mounts and metal riders but they are on the Back burner.

Tichi-Huichi's Raiders:

Then I have a more special unit, these are really old metal models I got of Ebay, just think they are cool! These are more light cavalry.

Forgot how much of a pain these od metal models can be, so many parts and you need allot of green stuff to close the gaps. Look great painted up thou.

High Elf Battle Standard:

Finally a pointy elf hero. Actually had this guy done long ago, just before the apocalypse but ke9t forgetting to post it. Great plastic  model,  the banner turned out pretty well I think.

Anyway that's it for now, but GW finally reopened the online store so I have a few more dinosaurs to do hah.

Painting- Update, Lizardmen

Hello Folks,

Hope your doing ok with the apocalypse.

Got some more painting  done, not being allowed outside really helps get things done. Still having fun with painting Lizards, really got a good string going on big besties.

Skinks:

First up more of the little guys. This time with blow pipes for variety. Not a huge fan of this weapon as they are a bit to long and some are a but awkward.

Kroxigor:

Then some medium size guys, big crocodile  guys to back up their little buddies.

Stegadon:

Big old triceratops guy. This model looks pretty great but was a huge pain. I picked up this old metal guy at fall in and it weights a ton and was a pain to assemble. Turned out ok in the end thou.

Carnosaur:

Last up the biggest best of them all, the dreaded Carnosaur. Thus us a new plastic kit, so was super easy to assemble. I used a quick tip guide from Miniwargaming, using contrast paints. Worked out very well.

Only 2 complaints I have is that the head is a bit small, and the big stone throne is a bit big. Still great thou.

So that's all I have for now, but still more t8 come. Mainly allot of cav but some other stuff as well.

Of course heres a army shot of the current progress.

And the full lot so far.

Painting Update- Lizards

Hello Folks,

Getting  lots of painting done during the plague. Still have to work from home, but save time from the bus and not allowed to go anywhere on the weekends. But got knocked off the posting sechedule so havent gotten around to Cold Wars part 2. However I am pretty excited to get this up so here we are!

Big buy for me at Cold Wars were a few lizardmen kits, most notably the start collecting Skinks box. I have decided t8 base fir Warhamnee Fantasy, but have it in mind to also play Age of Sigmar, and Saga Age of Magic.

Fantasy armies are all the rage right now.

Skinks:

Starting small with a bunch of skink skirmishes. Went with javelins as I thought they look cool with shields.

Skink Priest:

Then you of course need a wizard to boss them around. He has a special textured base so I decided to skip the normal thin base.

Terradon Riders:

Cant forget the Skink Air Force of course. So we have some teradyctls to drop rocks on people/carry them off whatever comes up.

Bastilidon:

Finally due to their small size the Skinks of course want their giant scaly fried to come along. Complete with a magic beam crystal on top. Just makes sense.

Start Collecting:

So there is the start of a collection of Lizards. Everyone enjoys dinosaurs and bright colors. Made very easy actually with the new contrast paints.

Have more stuff to do of course, probably will do  a mix of Elves and Lizards based on what ever strikes my fancy that week. Plus maybe more besides. I figure during the Apocalypse it's based to follow your heart so not really any plan here.

Osgiliath:

Also got a couple of bits of terrain done, intended for my Camgames game. Although I have pretty much given up hope on that happening, so really cut the motivation to work on it.

Hopefully everyone out there is staying safe, hope to see lots of blog posts these days. Need t8 make up for the lack if gaming!

Cold Wars 2020 - Part 1

Hello Folks,

Back from Cold Wars, attendance seemed a bit down but was still pretty successful.

Big event for day 1 was a pick up game of Saga Age of Magic! Got the chance to try put my new pointy elves in a game.

We just played a simple scenario with cautious, and subjugation. Basically 5 turns of murder with bonus points for the most units alive.

I was facing off against the dreaded dark elves.

I took 18 levy archers, static warmachine, mounted hearthguard, a double sized unit of heavy weapon hearthguard, wizard and warlord.

Heres the set up. Basically archers in front hearthguard behind. Hoping to get some fatigues on the big besties to start.

Dark Elves advance with a mighty War Hydra leading the way

On my turn I fire off lots of shots wounding the hydra and chopping off a few warriors, then put up an elemental shield on the archers.

Dark elves press on getting ready to charge next turn

With the Witch Elves leaping forward to fight the archers. But limited casualties due to the shield, and their closing fire.

Next turn for me the mage throws up a max level elemental Barrie on the knights. Who charge in and kill the cold one knights, weaked by war machine fire, with out loss.

The dark elves send some creatures to smash the war machine but with incredibly bad luck somehow fail. The warriors do better however pushing back and killing allot of archers on the right.

Seeing their moment the Swordmasters charge the Dark Elf Sorceress and cut her to ribbons. While withering fire kills more warriors. And a creature.

The Dark Elves try to counter, with their warlord killing the last of the Silverhelms. On my turn the swordmasters are able to kill most of the warriors, and the war machine drowns the creature I think.

Pretty clear win for the High Elves. I think the Dark Elves struggled a bit due to using the  Hordes board which is bit lack luster in my experience. But it was a very good game. Was great to get the new elves into a fight, especially against their most hated brethren!

Anyway here's a few shots of random tables throughout the con which I found interesting.

Huge Test of Honour set up

Rice!

Old west chariot race, I think using gas lands

WW2

Boats

More Boats

Neat terrain

Always great terrain from these Carnage Guys

That spot right there

Heavy Gear!

That one Martian game

ArnHeim (Say with German Accent to annoy Chris)

More Saga, think the Dark Elves are recessing command structure

Part 2 coming soon, probably tomorrow.

Thanks;
Mike

Battle Report - ADLG

Hello Folks,

This past Sunday  was tine for some more gaming. Duncan and Ben wanted to practice a game of Art de la Gurere for the tournament.

They had 300 points of Alexander's army vs my Roman's with Dacian allies.

Heres the set up. We have the legions on the left, allies on the right. Alexander has a bunch of pike facing the Roman's with some light stuff to tie up the allies.

Alexander marches straight in.

We take  A more measured approach. But the pikes are always eager to charge as you can see!

The lines clash. First round goes pretty even. All things considered.

Main lines fully in battle now,  even the Daciams are getting close to fighting. We are loosing the cavalry fight, but luckily ended up anchored by the field. Had allot of lucky rolls this turn so it swung back to us a bit.

Time for the Dacians to flank. Both main lines are pretty beat up at this point with lots of disruptions.

Units start breaking. Things are looking a bit grim. But we are holding them off for now. The Dacians are well into on the right.

A mounted Roman general has to fight off the elite pikes!

But he wins and kills them! We are getting some lucky fights and pushing back.

But its not enough and the pikes smash through our lines, breaking our army.

Was a fun game actually decently close. I realized at the end the Roman's have armour we could have benefited from saving a few hits. Probably would have made it even closer, need to remember that for next time!

Off to Cold Wars in a few days so look forward to that coverage.

Thanks;
Mike
