Battle Report - Club Day Warhammer

 Hello Folks,

Managed to get in another club day, great time as usual. Today the main game of the day was By Fire and Sword, but we decided to play a side game of warhammer fantasy 7th edition.

Serge has some Skaven from island of blood, so I took small armies of both lizards and high elves, hoping to get 2 games in. They were around 700 points.

Probably got something things wrong, rusty on the rules.

Game 1: Lizardmen

First up the rats would have to fight dinosaurs. I forgot the set up shot but here we are after turn 2. Terradons flanking with skirmishes on the sides and a steggadon up the middle.

The rats pressed forward, lucky foe me their warp fire thrower just explodes and the has mortar shot wide!

Turn 2 much excitement! The steggadon charged in against the rats, but rolled very poorly, then fled from combat and was overrun! The blow pipe skins mage to kill a rat ogre thou. Meanwhile the terradons dropped rocks on the other unit of rats who panicked.

Rats counter attack, the ogres charge the skinks who flee into the woods. The mortar gassed a few of the others, while the cheiftans unit advanced.

My turn the orange skinks fail to rally and flee off the board! But the blue sk8nks are to to flank and t8ss javelin while the mage fires in some spells.

Skaven charge the mage who flees, and mortar gasses a few skinks who panic. The ogre tries to block and save the remaining unit from a rare charge.

Missing the last picture, but the terradons cleaned up the ogre, while all the skinks ran way, so a win fir the ratmen!

Game 2: vs High Elves

Second game I took out the very high elves to have a go. My plan is to shoot arrows while the sword masters murder everything and the knights flank.

Skaven fire the poison mortar dead on the swordmasters, who can't cut gas... All but 2 or 3 due who then obviously flee, he not good.

I decided a risk is needed so try a long charge with the knights but am an inch it 2 out sadly. But I am able to pincushion the mortar with arrows.

Skaven get right up in the archers face, with the ogres in the woods.

I'm not really willing to pit the knights into a forest, so try to run past. But lucky I am able to panic one skaven unit with shooting

Rats fail to rally, but but up most of one unit with fire, the other die from the charge. Not looking good!

I try to charge the fleeing unit, but they run out of range. At least my wizard is able to kill the pesky fire thrower.

Skaven charge the knights in the rear with the ogres, killing a couple and making them run. While the remains unit tries to get my wizard with magic. But no luck their.

The disaster continues as my knights fail to rally and exit stage left! The skaven are able to kill my wizard on their go, so another solid win for them!

Not a great showing on my side perhaps, but was great to get back to playing this game again, very fun.

As usual here's a picture of the other games ongoing:

Tod showing Jay that rivers are a bad time.

More open battle.

I guess Cossacks raid a village i guess which is their bread and butter I assume!

Mike

Painting Update - Battletech Clan Invasion Kicksterter

 Hello Folks,

Another small bit of painting. Recently received wave one of the battletrch kickstarter for some plastic models so have been painting them up. Finished the starter box plus 1 bonus model.

Mechs:

First up the 5 mechs you get. I decided to paint them in as the Jade Falcon Clan because green and yellow are cool. Very nice models, much improved over the old metals. Also come pre assembled so very easy to get going. All in all very fun change of pace.

Elemental Battle Armor:

You also get a couple of stands of battle armor. These are kind of my favorite not going to lie, the rocket jumping guys are just fun.

Hellbringer:

Finally I painted up this guy from a salvage box. Mainly for nostalgic reason as o used to use one of these allot back in the university days. My old pal Ron ran a very fun mercenary campaign.

Group shot of course.

I still have like half a dozen more clan mechs, and a unitbof battle armor, but this is enough to get started, so I'll just leave it there for now. More to come once 8 get a game or I guess wave 2 ships.

Battle Report - Return of the Club!

 Hello All,

The club has returned! This time we are playing Saga: Age of Crusades. I took my Ordenstaat (Teutonic Knights), and ended up fighting martins Crusaders.

We did the random mission, but I just set up the terrain, so we skipped those rolls. The special rule was no special rule, and the mission was Show of Force. Basically survive and get a unit into the enemy deployment.

Here's the set up. I wanted to do a northern crusade so brought some stuff which worked great with the clubs mat.

Crusaders took the initiative and moved up a bit shooting a few arrows. The turcoples started an annoying plan of charging up shooting and falling back.

I shifted everything around a bit, and did the same, a bit less effective.

Crusaders brought the turcoples around the forest to fire on my brother Knights. I used a defensive ability but he still killed 2!

I decided to make a suicide attack with my remaining knights, but had poor luck and only killed 1, so that was a bad call.

Crusaders kept up a hail of fire, really killing off my serfs.

Starting to get a bit desperate being down on saga dice. But I saw able to kill some serfs to get more. I went for a double charge with my remaining Knights that went ok.

Crusaders were able to counter attack pretty well with their own knights however. As you cans ee very few unit left for me!

I decided on a last hurrah! So my warlord charged the annoying turcoples. I killed a few but not as many as I wanted, and my guy was left exhausted and vulnerable. The single knight charge was not very mighty either hah.

As if to add to the indignity the turcoples just shot my warlord down with arrows, no honor with these pagans!

My turn such as it is. Just 1 saga dice but I managed to get a shot off and finish a unit of knits! take that.

Crusaders use their turn to get into my deployment zone, so yeah I feel like it is safe to say they showed me the force!

Final turn for me, my saga dice did not roll a symbol I could use to activate my levy so that was that! We elected to skip the mathematics phase, but I am somewhat confident that the Crusaders won! Was a very fun game thou never the less, great to have the club back again look forward to more!

;

As usual here is a few shots of other games going on:

Spring Crusades

Much larger desert crusades. I assume the camels are about to unleash hell.

Also WW2.

Painting - Iranians Team Yankee

 Hello Folks,

Got another painting project completed. I decided it would be a good idea to do something easy, so looking at my list 9f stuff to do I settled on some Iranians for team yankee, someone has to play the good guys right?

Anyway this went quite well so I got the stuff I had done plus a second wave. Very simple with washes and dry brushing using make up brushes.

Tanks:

First up a full company of cheiftan tanks, carefully selected by the Shah. You can also use some us or Russian tanks, my plan is to mix in my Jordian Pattons.

Cobra Attack Helicopters:

To be honest I mainly have these as they are just in the starter box. But even bad helicopters make this game more fun. They came out pretty cool at least, and didn't break any tail rotors this time!

Infantry:

Actually even managed to get the infantry painted. Usually I just buy them. A fun mix of us and Russian stuff. Normal ride is m113 but I took the btr69 option as wheels are more fun.

Recon:

Jeeps and scorpion tanks, whats not to love. Note I bought the wrong jeeps by accident should have gotten the Israel pack as they have TOW but I decided to not care.

Full Force:

So there you have it whole bunch if Iranians ready for battle. All this only comes to 65 points, but I find this game more fun on the smaller side anyway. Hopefully cam get in a game some day.

Painting Update - Mostly 40k

 Hello Folks,

Got some more painting done, so time for another painting post to show off what had been completed. Mostly 40k stuff.

Mortis Engine:

First up is this big olde ghost chariot to carry around a necromancer. Did this for a sci-fi on the rock painting contest, great excuse to get it do. Plan to use it as a flying monster next time i get to play age of magic!

Howling Banshees:

First new 40k unit ate these murder ladies. First new eldar plastic kit in a long time, so bound to paint a few of these eventually. May have to get another box to complete the 10 man unit. Or might just remain some old metals and mix them.

Objectives:

Can't play a game without objectives, so I did a quick job of these while watching the new Sandler movie on Netflix hah.

Wraith Blades:

Big robot guys with swords whats nit to love?

Wraith Hunter:

Finally rounding things of with a tank, nit to skimp on the crazy big gun. I used the mat varnish from army painter on this before I switched to the satin home hardware one. Nit happy with how dull it looks, but the satin worked out great for the rest.

Swordmasters:

Last but not least a few swordmasters to bring my unit up to 15. Hope to do more 40k and fantasy units intermittently but next big thing I hope to finish is some tanks for oil wars!

Evil Tree:

Oh almost forgot I finished one of the tress I got from Jeff. Very nice details, almost to many if anything. 3d printing seems pretty good.

Battle Report - Warhammer 40k City Fight

 Hello Folks.

Managed to get another game going over the long weekend, more 40k was on the books. Decided to set up a small city fight table, using modern terrain, and play a game using the new Incursion Missions from the new 40k edition, but still using the 7th edition rules! Messing around with quite a few things, also the table was a bit to small.

Anyway I took an Eldar force with some newly painted close combat guys (painting post coming soonish), to face down some Tau in Fire Sweep. Goal to claim objectives and clear the enemy from the area for a bigger push.

Forgot to take a deployment picture but here we are after my first turn. Mostly moving up and claiming the objective on the second story right hand side. Plus advancing a group down the street to claim another and do some damage hidden behind the left most building.

The tau fought back as hard as they could, killing allot of the guys around my home objective, and reclaiming the left objective.

Next turn was a lucky one for me, managed to advance my assault squad into range of the Tau home objective, they were able to flamethrower, all those guys and charge off the roof to put them to the sword. I would be racking up allot of points now, and the Tau were hurting.

The Tau made some risky plays to try and destroy my tank, but luck was sadly not on their side, not so much as a scratch!

This put their big battle suit in range to be charged, so my big sword guys happily obliged. I figured my tank was safe by now so advanced into the center hoping to finish off the depleted Tau forces. But didn't have many good targets for my giant cannon, dangerous to shoot close to my own guys who are now all over the place.

Final turn for the Tau saw them finally get some good luck and blow my tank to tiny tank pieces, but far behind on points and with just a couple of guys alive it was a clear victory for the Eldar.

Was a great game thou, fun to try out some new city terrain. Cardboard buildings and a new mat from battle systems I think they are called. Pretty fiddly and close for 40k, but will be great fo skirmish games like batman, or the kung fu game, zombies ect...

Thanks;

Mike

Battle Report - Club Day Muskets and Tomahawks

 Hello Folks,

Time for another battle report. This week the theme diwn at the club is Muskets and Tomahawks. Due to some cancelations I ended up playing an American War fir Independence game against Tod.

I took a British force scrapping together what I had. To face down a bunch of Yanks.

Loosely based a battle about burning a valley.

My mission was to burn down buildings, the Americans was murder.

Here's the set up, my guys hoping of their ship to burn some buildings, bad Americans in the opposite corner to kill the kings loyal subjects.

I got to burning things right away, by the end of turn 1 the first house is on fire. My cannon got a lucky shot and took out nearly half of one unit of continental infantry. But the Amerucans were bringing back some terribly accurate fire themselves. One sailor got killed and their group took off.

Not a ton of movement, but lots of shooting back and forth. I had dealt with 1 unit of American regulars, but the other advanced through the big house and now were right in my face.

They killed my regular unit with ease, so the sailors who had recovered tried a charge. This turned out to be a terrible plan as they were out numbered, and out fought. We played a few more turns, but my force was half gone so tods main objective of murder was accomplished.

Worth noting we had some intrigues as well. Mine was ti negotiate with a local, i got that on turn 1 with a lucky roll. The Americams had a lazy commander, so he had to move less then 12" to accomplish his goals. Sadly Tod made that guy march all across the board.

Final result, vilage only slightly on fire, negotiations concluded, time to sail off!

Only other game was John an Steve throwing down in a great looking table.

Thanks;

Mike
