Hello Folks,
Time for another battle report, I guess getting back into thing after a lazy winter.
Anyway this week we are trying out another game of Flames of War: Vietnam. I have the PAVN with some extra troops supplied by Stan and a few from Duncan.
Scenario is Up River as Duncan wanted to try out his boats. Basically 5 objectives to Search or Evacuate, which you do by controlling and rolling a 6. Free world has everything in the main River, Vietnam everything in reserve except for an ambush.
River boats with a few squads of infantry puttering along. Plus hueys with the special forces.
My turn I ambushed my tanks thinking to sink Duncans battleship er boat. Only to find the tanks Stan had loaned can't penetrate the boats! Also some local forces on an objective.
Evil Americans heli landed the special forces on 1 objective, and unloaded the boats.
My plan is to bring in smaller platoons to pepper up the US a bit so my real infantry can getting the work done. So HMG nests to keep the special forces honest, and man packed recoiless guns to try the boats. Turns out their special rule against heat weapons is all around not just on the sides... so can't damage them.
Special forces cant get a 6 to search their pbjective, but the boat guys get one near the river.
Then I get my river objective evacuated.
Time to see off the special forces. On the right I try a risky assault but mostly get my guys chewed up.
Have another platoon to come on next turn that is able to do the job. You really need to have very fee us units left even when they are pinned.
At this point we ran out of time. My local forces failed all 6 rolls to evacuate the formally soecial forces objective. We decided to call it a draw propaganda victory for both sides. 1 objective each
Vietnam is turning out to be pretty fun. Need to do a bit more painting at some point, but not really a priority.
Thanks;
Mike
