Battle Report - Nam

 Hello Folks,

Time for another battle, this week we are trying out some Vietnam gaming. Have some pretty small forces as we are working towards infantry aces, but enough to have some fun.

I took the PAVN infantry company, with 2 platoons, mortars, MG nests, recoiless guns, and Stan donated a few 'tanks'.

The evil invaders had an American airmobile company with a few cobras.

Decided to try the hot landing zone mission.

Here's the deployment, the Americans star with 1 platoon in the landing zone, which they have to defend, and try to take my objective in the woods. Rest of the Americans are in air mobile reserve, and the full Vietnam force is in immediate reserves, with most stuff coming on under the guerilla fighters rule.

Turn 1 no Vietnam stuff arrives.

Turn 2 infantry and nests. Some scattered fire but no effect.

Second air mobile platoon puts down. And some cobras pepper up my guys real good.

Turn 3 some AA are revealed, and they diwn a cobra!

Americans press forward but I diwn a other cobra, good times for Vietnam. Also get some very ineffective tanks to start pressuring the objective.

Americans press in an assault and push ne out of my nice wood.

On my turn I shift my AA and get another pair of cobras, plus bring in a second platoon, and move the remains of the first yo contest.

Americans assault again fi ishingvthe first platoon.

I am able to recycle my infantry, and press in the next squad. Sadly I get 4 of the 5 hits needed to pin, which means I am absolutely butchered by defensive fire.

So the Americans win an irrelevant woods and claim victory, but with some many choppers downed they can only score a propaganda victory.

Got to say Nam ended up being more fun, and more interesting the expected. Surely more to come, there's lots of interesting missions to try!

Thanks;
Mike

Battletech - Random Mech Games

 Hello Folks,

Time for another battle report, this week it's battketech time. Order of battlevthis time was to buy a pair of random mech salvage boxes, paint em up, and play a game!

Basically saw these at Fandom and thought it would be a good laugh.

Random box of mysteries, how lucky will I be.

Warhammer and Executioner, 2 clan assault mechs, so quite lucly!

Opposing forces not as lucky, with rifleman and nova. Nove i quot like, but its not an assault mech!

We decided to use a solaris games fame table fir victory and make it a gladiatorial duel. Basically you get fame for doing big damage, crits, blowing stuff up. But can loose ot for killing smaller mechs then you  running away  stuff the crowd doesn't like.

Windy small river with some building and s bit of trees. Enter the combatants, team yellow vs team gold.

Few turn advancing to contact, team yellow ducking around the water factory.

And the blasting begins, executioner jumps over and light up rifleman, while my warhammer takes on a hiding nova.

Things develop very fast, on the second or third round of firing, rifleman gets a torso crit, and hits my MG ammo! No more executioner. But he goes down fighting, destroying one side of rifleman torso leaving him crippled.

Seems there's advantages to not using all your luck on the mech draws!

Crippled rifleman limps away while n9va and warhammer pound it out. Warhammer is able to keep up just enough distance to prevent nova from trying a dwsth from above or getting behind.

We end up trading shots at medium range, but all the lasers from nova are spreading out the damage, while warhammer gets solid ppc hits.

In the end nova tries a last ditch alpha strike, but can't quit do it, and ends up with a destroyed center torso.

Fame points end up very even, I got allot for doing big hits of damage, and blasting internal for crits. So a few points a turn, meanwhile the evil Goldens get good points for killing a bigger guy and some crits. I think it's like 8-9 on fame?

Decided to call that a draw, maybe that's a bit of a win for the disadvantaged force, up to the crowd to decide that?

In the end rando mechs was allot of fun, will have to do again!

Thanks;
Mike

Battle Report - Epic Saga!

 Hello Folks,

Another club day done, this week was Napoleonics ans Saga Age if Hanibal. We had a couple of guys making a trim diwn from Montreal looking to play sone Saga so we organized a a big game for fun.

Ended with 5 of us so we set up 2 teams, greeks and 2 carthage armies 9n our side, vs 2 Roman and gauls. You loose when 2 of your warbands are demoralized which cam happen when you loose a unit.

Here's the set up, many Saga units ready to get into action!

First turn just 2 Saga dice per army so really the armies just roll up a bit.

After turn 2, now you can use 4 Saga dice, nit allot but enough fircsome murder! Some romans javelinmen moved uo and sadly killed my elephant 🐘. With some bad luck I failed the roll and demoralized.

Some fighting along the line, and the flank Carthage sent their hearthguard I to the woods to clean out a unit of levy bow that shot uo their elephant.

Turn 3, now full Saga dice is allowed of you still have units! At thus point we were always using a tenacity that helps you avoid becoming demoralized to try and stay in the game, but the gauls on the flank were able to finish a unit and kill a warlord! So sadly we broke. But decided to finish the turn for fun.

I was able to finish the roman levy and a unit of warriors which was enough to demoralize them. So at least we went diwn fighting.

Looking back I probably should have taken more pictures, but wasn't really expecting things to demoralize so easily. But we had lightly smaller them normal armies as well at 15 points total instead of 18.

In the end epic Saha was pretty fun. I think we all agreed it went well and is a good change up to try now and then. Main issue is that you have 5-6 players but only 1 activating at a time so it takes a bit between turns.

The mechanic for turn order is fun thou, basically you have tokens from 1-6 and you assign them to your opponents warbands they then go in nimrric order, so you get to pick the order your opponents go in, but not your own.

Anyways great to play some age if hanibsl, and big thanks to our friends from Montreal for making the trip down!

Thanks;
Mike
